And to think that it is really one of life's pleasures...making babies that is. In my case, it was a little trickier than the usual program, but that seems to be the story of my life.

"Try boxer shorts," was the response from my best friend Ira, whose wife was also trying to get pregnant. Thinking this was another one of his ploys to get me off track, I said, "Oh sure, as if THAT would make the difference". One month later, but never letting him know I switched, my Daddy's World journey would begin.

Zack and Gabe were named with visions of a television announcer dramatically pronouncing that they had just sunk the winning basket, or kicked the winning goal...never did I realize that teaching them to lift the toilet seat would be a much greater achievement. They both have always been athletic. I think it all starts when the eye-hand coordination gets so well developed at the kitchen table, as they practice sending oatmeal across the room with nothing more than a baby spoon to project it! Or perhaps it comes from their ability to handle pain, as one inflicts it on the other...like the time Zack decided to see how far the top of the Bic pen could go inside of Gabe's little nostril!

As I laughed at their antics, and loved every minute of them, I started to write them down. I initially wrote for my family, then a few friends, and eventually the stories became columns in a newspaper in Atlanta. These columns were made into a cable TV show in Los Angeles, but since :Father Knows Best" had already been done, fame and fortune in Hollywood would have to wait.

Along the way, life has thrown its curve balls - it always does. But you learn from your mistakes and then you teach these same lessons to your kids, thinking this way, they will never make those same mistakes. So they make other mistakes! They always do - actually. they always need to! And you figure out that if you really believe in them as people with their own minds and souls, they will make the right choices if you surround them with other good people...then you can turn the lights off at night, and finally get a good night's sleep, with both eyes closed.

Writing these stories is a constant joy for me. My hope is that reading them will be an equally enjoyable experience for you. And when you finish a story that particularly reminds you of someone in your life, please pick up the phone, or your pen, or even your laptop, and most importantly, tell them how much you love them. It is those relationships that sweeten our life, as we strive to make lemonade from any lemons that life brings us.
